A Pretty and Organized Bathroom on a Budget

Craving a bathroom that’s high on style and practicality? Here are some simple, budget friendly tips:

1. Decant into a prettier containers. (This isn’t always worth it but some selective decanting can really amp up the style of your bathroom.)

2. Hide items that aren’t pretty in drawers, cabinets, or containers. This adds an extra step to your routine so you want to be strategic about what you hide.

3. Group items out in the open on a tray or in a bowl. Grouping in a bowl eliminates the “cluttered” look but keeps things visible and grabbable.

Some examples:

Bathroom in Ellicott City Maryland. Organized by a Professional Organizer.

Above, you see toilet paper can be “decanted” out of the plastic wrapper and stacked on an open shelf. Groupings of toilet paper actually look… chic(?) if they are clustered together. You aren’t making busy work for yourself because unwrapping the rolls has to be done at some point. You might as well enjoy them looking nice in the meantime.

Stacks of towels and washcloths also look pretty stacked on an open shelf (the key is having all the same color and keeping the fold side facing out.)

The hand soap above has been decanted into a amber glass bottle (purchased on Amazon) with a pretty label (also purchased on Amazon.) Amazon has a lot of “minimal hand soap label” options that will make your cheap bulk hand soap look like it’s from a high end hotel.

The pretty baskets on the open shelves hide unsightly items like mouthwash, garbage bags, and overstock.

Howard County Maryland, beauty product organization professional.

Above is an example of grouping and grabbable. Items you use daily can be dumped in a pretty bowl. You are set up for success because the system is easy. I literally have a bowl of “things I put on my face everyday.” All the small items swim together in the bowl but the countertop doesn’t look cluttered.

This trash can in the photo above has 2 layers, a plastic insert and an outer woven decorative basket. It’s an old purchase from Target but this style is easy to find. (The garbage bag can be tucked inside so the crinkly plastic doesn’t show.) You get the plastic practicality you need on the inside and the warm woven decor on the outside.

Inside the cabinet, clear bins create order while keeping items visible. This is a guest bath so the bins hold sample size supplies for guests.

Nail polish caddy idea.

Inside your bathroom cabinets, you can use clear caddies to store things by “task.” Cleaning, painting nails, etc. Put all the tools needed for the task in the caddy.

If you don’t want to deal with decanting soap you can just buy pretty disposable dispensers each time. :)

Keep it simple and tweak your system until you find your sweet spot of sustainable organization!
